Hajime and Rei were childhood friends who lived in the same neighborhood. They weren’t officially boyfriend and girlfriend, but neither came from a stable home life. Hajime lived in a single-father household; his father was violent and a gambling addict. Rei lived in a single-mother household; her mother was promiscuous and was having an affair with Hajime’s father. Hajime’s father took all the money Hajime earned from his part-time job and left with Rei’s mother… leaving the two still-fragile teenagers all alone.
