We’re a couple past our prime who’ve been dating for 15 years but are still dragging our feet without getting married. Every time her mother, Kyoko, comes to visit, she lectures us, “When are you two going to get married?” “When will you two get married?” Whenever her mother, Kyoko, came to visit, she’d lecture us. Fed up with my girlfriend’s evasive answer—“Maybe when we have a baby”—Kyoko turned to me and said, “So you’ll get married once you have a baby?” Then, out of the blue, she added, “Go ahead and try to get me pregnant…”
